What does ADHD look like?
Childhood Experiences with ADHD
In childhood, ADHD is frequently misunderstood and can be perceived as intentional misbehavior. Children living with ADHD may face challenges with paying attention in the classroom, often resulting in them getting in trouble for talking out of turn or leaving their seats without permission. These struggles can be misinterpreted by teachers and adults, leading to frequent disciplinary actions. Additionally, the frustration experienced by their peers due to these behaviors may result in social isolation, making it difficult for children with ADHD to form and maintain friendships.
ADHD in Adulthood
As individuals with ADHD grow older, the disorder can negatively impact various aspects of adult life, including careers, relationships, and self-esteem. Inattention often leads to forgotten responsibilities, poor organizational skills, and trouble completing tasks. Hyperactivity in adulthood may appear as thrill seeking, a heightened need for stimulation, and impulsive decision-making, all of which can create additional challenges in both personal and professional settings.
A person may struggle with both inattention and hyperactivity, or only one of these.
The Benefits of an Accurate ADHD Diagnosis
Receiving an accurate diagnosis for ADHD offers several significant benefits for individuals of all ages. Obtaining the correct diagnosis is a critical first step toward understanding one’s unique experiences and accessing effective support.
Understanding the root cause of difficulties with attention, organization, or impulse control can boost self-esteem and reduce feelings of frustration or shame. It helps individuals and their families recognize that these challenges are part of a medical condition, not a personal failing, which can decrease stigma and promote self-acceptance.
With an official diagnosis, individuals often become eligible for academic accommodations, workplace adjustments, and support services. In schools and workplaces, a formal diagnosis is often necessary to access special education services, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), or reasonable adjustments under disability laws.
Accurate diagnosis allows for timely intervention, which can prevent secondary issues such as anxiety, depression, academic or job struggles, and relationship difficulties. Addressing ADHD proactively increases the likelihood of success in education, work, and social settings.

ADHD Assessment Services
I provide a focused ADHD diagnostic assessment designed to determine the presence of ADHD as well as other possible psychiatric diagnoses. This service prioritizes a structured diagnostic interview, supplemented by research-based self-report assessment inventories. Please be aware that this assessment does not include comprehensive neuropsychological testing.
The evaluation process is organized into two 60-minute live sessions, which are available either in-person or via telehealth. Between these two appointments, you will be asked to complete several self-report assessments at your own pace. After you finish these assessments, we will meet again for the second session.
Once the second visit concludes, you will receive a comprehensive report, typically ranging from 5 to 10 pages in length. This report will be delivered within 7 business days of the completion of your two assessment sessions. If desired, you may also schedule an optional 30-minute live session to review your testing results.
Currently, I offer ADHD assessments services for adults (ages 18+). I plan to launch ADHD assessments for children and adolescents within the next few months.
